Background of the study
This study explores the impact of translation technology on Hausa language interpretation in Kano courtrooms, where technological advancements are increasingly integrated into legal processes. With the advent of digital translation tools and software, interpreters now have access to resources that can enhance the speed and accuracy of legal interpretation (Bello, 2023). In Kano, where Hausa is predominantly spoken, technology has the potential to mitigate some of the challenges traditionally associated with courtroom interpretation, such as time constraints and terminology inconsistencies. The study reviews various translation technologies, including computer-assisted interpreting systems and mobile applications, and assesses their effectiveness in real courtroom settings. Data is collected through observations, interviews with legal interpreters, and an evaluation of courtroom performance metrics. The research critically examines whether these technological tools improve interpretation accuracy and efficiency, or if they introduce new challenges, such as over-reliance on automated systems and technical malfunctions. By analyzing these factors, the study aims to provide recommendations for integrating technology in a way that enhances legal interpretation without compromising the integrity of the judicial process (Bello, 2023).

Statement of the problem
Despite the potential benefits of translation technology in Kano courtrooms, several challenges persist. Issues such as system inaccuracies, technical malfunctions, and a dependency on automated outputs have been observed, potentially leading to misinterpretation in legal proceedings (Bello, 2023). These technological shortcomings can affect the clarity and reliability of legal interpretation, undermining the judicial process. Additionally, there is limited training for legal interpreters on the effective use of these tools, which further exacerbates the problem. This study aims to identify the specific challenges associated with translation technology in courtrooms and evaluate its overall impact on Hausa language interpretation, with a view to recommending improvements for better integration and performance.

Objectives of the study:

To assess the impact of translation technology on courtroom interpretation.

To identify challenges associated with technological tools in legal settings.

To recommend strategies for effective integration of translation technology.

Research questions:

How does translation technology affect Hausa language interpretation in courtrooms?

What challenges are encountered when using these technologies?

What measures can improve the effectiveness of translation technology in legal contexts?

Significance of the study
This study is significant as it evaluates the role of translation technology in enhancing legal interpretation in Kano courtrooms. Its findings will aid legal professionals and technology developers in refining tools and training programs, thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of Hausa language interpretation in legal proceedings (Bello, 2023).

Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to examining the impact of translation technology on Hausa language interpretation in Kano courtrooms, focusing on technological performance and interpreter feedback.

Definitions of terms:

Translation technology: Digital tools and software used to aid language interpretation.

Courtroom interpretation: The process of translating spoken language during legal proceedings.

Automated systems: Computer programs that perform translation tasks without human intervention.
